AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39 and Title 40, relative to sentencing for criminal offenses.
SB1659 amends Tennessee’s sentencing laws for certain sexual offenses, primarily by expanding the list of aggravating factors that can increase punishment for aggravated rape and related crimes. In addition, it amends the sentencing statute for first degree murder to include rape of a child as a triggering offense in the referenced provision, thereby aligning that section with the bill’s broader focus on severe sexual violence against children. The act applies only to offenses committed on or after July 1, 2026.
