  • Didn't move forward then but now speaking with him he has talked with the family.
  • Well, yes, it goes, you know, Service Oklahoma, that people pay extra for these special license plates
Summary: The Transportation Committee first announced it would lay over House Bill 3664, then took up several transportation-related measures. House Bill 3147, by Rep. Hilton Brand, would create a voluntary Route 66 centennial license plate to mark the 2026 centennial of Route 66 and support the Oklahoma Route 66 Association; the sponsor said an emergency clause was included so plates could be in production before the celebration. The committee voted 9-0 to pass the bill. The committee then considered House Bill 4299, by Rep. Blair, to rename the interchange at Indian Hills Road and I-35 as the Toby Keith interchange. Members asked for clarification on the location and whether the Keith family had been consulted; the sponsor said the family was ready to move forward and that the effort had been started previously by a former member. The bill passed 8-2. Under oversight, the committee approved a PCS for House Bill 4265, the omnibus memorial roads and bridges naming bill, on a 9-0 vote. It then took up House Bill 4266, the special license plates omnibus bill, where members asked about how funds from out-of-state college and university plates would be handled; the sponsor said the money would stay in Oklahoma through the state system and that no funds would go to out-of-state schools. That bill also passed, 10-0. The chair noted the committee would meet again the following week and members would be told by Friday whether there would be an agenda.

Summary: The Florida House convened for regular business, with Speaker Perez announcing historic budget plans including the largest state tax cut in Florida history - a permanent 0.75% sales tax reduction from 6% to 5.25%, saving Floridians nearly $5 billion annually. The House will propose a budget lower than both the Governor's proposal and last year's budget. Several bills passed including Lucy's Law (boating safety), water access facilities funding, municipal utility rate corrections, hazardous walking conditions for schools, and medical malpractice 'Free Kill Law' repeal. The controversial firearm purchase age bill (HB 759) passed 78-34, lowering the minimum age from 21 to 18, despite emotional opposition citing the Parkland shooting. Other bills addressed cursive writing instruction, peer support for first responders, and government sunset reviews. Multiple veto override motions were approved unanimously, reinstating funding for veterans programs and infrastructure projects.

Summary: The House convened with a roll call, prayer, and Pledge of Allegiance, then heard several introductions and special recognitions, including students and civic groups in the galleries, the Morris Eagles High School Academic Team, Calumet state champion teams, and Cherokee Nation Day at the Capitol. Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. delivered extended remarks focused on tribal investments in public education, health care, housing, child care, rural infrastructure, and workforce development, and he urged lawmakers to preserve Medicaid expansion, saying it has brought major health-system revenue, jobs, and broader economic benefits to Oklahoma. The chamber also recognized the Doctor of the Day, Dr. Abby Woods, and Nurse of the Day, Kara Delapena. Members made personal remarks about the Pauls Valley High School incident and a trooper accident, with prayers offered for those affected. Representative Rowe highlighted the courage of school officials and first responders in Pauls Valley and tied the event to the Legislature’s recurring school safety funding. On legislation, the House adopted House Resolution 1045 designating the second week of April as Lung Cancer Action Week. Senate Bill 227, dealing with gross production tax and ad valorem taxation of oil and gas production equipment and flow lines, drew extensive debate over alleged double taxation and fiscal impacts; it passed 76-14. Senate Bill 1627, a criminal statutes cleanup measure addressing duplicate sections from modernization, passed 89-0 and its emergency clause also passed 89-0. The House also approved motions to request further conference on House Bills 2155 and 2157, and then adjourned until the next day.

Senate Bill 1265 extended the deadline for municipalities to publish ordinances from 15 to 30 days due to the decline of daily and weekly newspapers, and it passed 47-0. Senate Bill 1283 updated probate law so out-of-state executors, administrators, or guardians must appoint an agent in Oklahoma rather than in the county where the case is heard, and it passed 47-0. Senate Bill 1441 made it unlawful to knowingly fly a drone over critical infrastructure below 400 feet or into the structure, with penalties aligned to physical trespass, and it also passed 47-0.
