This act amends Sections 16-33D-3 and 16-33D-6, Code of Alabama 1975, to: (1) decrease the minimum age of an adult learner under the ReEngage Alabama Grant Program from 25 to 22 years of age; and (2) expands the definition of an eligible student to participate in the program to include individuals who have not previously received a grant award under the program, are pursuing a first baccalaureate degree following a two-year stop-out period after receiving his or her first associate degree, satisfies all other eligibility criteria, and is eligible according the Alabama Commission on Higher Education's rules.

This act amends Section 13A-6-21, Code of Alabama 1975, to add to the actions giving rise to the crime of assault in the second degree when a person who is at least 19 years of age, with the intent to cause physical injury to a child located in an educational environment, causes physical injury to any individual so long as the person is not employed by or enrolled in an entity associated with the educational environment.

This act amends Section 16-13-334, Code of Alabama 1975, to: (1) remove the requirement that teachers participating in the Teacher Excellence and Accountability for Mathematics and Science (TEAMS) Salary Schedule Program with over 20 years of service and who satisfy the advanced contract criteria for the program must be offered a contract for five years; and (2) provide such contacts may not be for a term longer than authorized for contracts of other participating teachers, except for those executed prior to October 1, 2026.
