Bills: SB295, HB378
Summary: The Senate Legislative Oversight Committee met in hybrid format, approved the minutes from its April 22 and May 13 meetings, and then heard two bills. HB 420 would modernize massage therapy licensure by allowing the Board of Massage and Bodywork to decide which coursework may be completed in a hybrid format and which must remain in person, while also removing outdated references to a license type the board no longer issues. The sponsor said the change would improve access for students who cannot easily travel or stop working, while preserving public protection through board rules. Public testimony on HB 420 was entirely supportive. Robert Overmiller spoke in favor, and Mackenzie Francis of Alpha School of Massage also supported the bill, citing workforce growth in massage therapy and arguing that hybrid education would expand access, especially for students entering the field later in life. No committee questions or objections were raised. The committee then discussed HB 378, which would continue the Council of Corrections’ partnership with the Criminal Justice Council and avoid the sunset of that arrangement in 2026. Members noted the bill stemmed from a prior Joint Legislative Oversight effort to provide the council with staff support and training. Robert Overmiller again testified in support, and there was no opposition or further public comment. The meeting concluded after discussion of the two bills, with no votes recorded in the transcript.

  • And the proceeds go to support the Oklahoma Route 66 Association for preservation, education, promotion
Summary: The Transportation Committee first announced it would lay over House Bill 3664, then took up several transportation-related measures. House Bill 3147, by Rep. Hilton Brand, would create a voluntary Route 66 centennial license plate to mark the 2026 centennial of Route 66 and support the Oklahoma Route 66 Association; the sponsor said an emergency clause was included so plates could be in production before the celebration. The committee voted 9-0 to pass the bill. The committee then considered House Bill 4299, by Rep. Blair, to rename the interchange at Indian Hills Road and I-35 as the Toby Keith interchange. Members asked for clarification on the location and whether the Keith family had been consulted; the sponsor said the family was ready to move forward and that the effort had been started previously by a former member. The bill passed 8-2. Under oversight, the committee approved a PCS for House Bill 4265, the omnibus memorial roads and bridges naming bill, on a 9-0 vote. It then took up House Bill 4266, the special license plates omnibus bill, where members asked about how funds from out-of-state college and university plates would be handled; the sponsor said the money would stay in Oklahoma through the state system and that no funds would go to out-of-state schools. That bill also passed, 10-0. The chair noted the committee would meet again the following week and members would be told by Friday whether there would be an agenda.

  • I WANT TO EXPRESS MY STRONG SUPPORT FOR HB 759.
  • HB 421 is for support personnel to seek peer support. For first responders, that is the bill, Mr.
  • I ask for your favorable support.
Summary: The Florida House convened for regular business, with Speaker Perez announcing historic budget plans including the largest state tax cut in Florida history - a permanent 0.75% sales tax reduction from 6% to 5.25%, saving Floridians nearly $5 billion annually. The House will propose a budget lower than both the Governor's proposal and last year's budget. Several bills passed including Lucy's Law (boating safety), water access facilities funding, municipal utility rate corrections, hazardous walking conditions for schools, and medical malpractice 'Free Kill Law' repeal. The controversial firearm purchase age bill (HB 759) passed 78-34, lowering the minimum age from 21 to 18, despite emotional opposition citing the Parkland shooting. Other bills addressed cursive writing instruction, peer support for first responders, and government sunset reviews. Multiple veto override motions were approved unanimously, reinstating funding for veterans programs and infrastructure projects.
